About the Department

The Bachelor of Nursing Science (BNSc.) was established in 2008 in the defunct Faculty of Medicine under the headship of Prof. M. S. Mijinyawa as the programme coordinator. The Department is now housed in the Faculty of Allied Health Science, College of Health Sciences of the University. It commenced employment of staff in the same year after resource verification by the National University Commission. The Department currently has over 20 academic and 10 non-teaching and administrative staff. The Department has undergraduate (Bachelor of Nursing Science BNSc) and several postgraduate programmes which include postgraduate diploma in nursing science, postgraduate diploma in nursing education, MSc nursing sciences, PhD Nursing Science, Mphil/PhD Nursing. The first set of undergraduate students were admitted in the 2009/2010 session and 22 of them graduated in 2013/2014 session. The Department has so far graduated eight (8) sets of undergraduate students. Products of the Department have produced excellent results in professional examinations conducted by Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria.
